Abstract
Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is the formation of a throm-bus in a deep vein, it is usually treated with anticoagulant therapy. After anticoagulant treatment is discontinued, DVT recurs in up to 30% of patients. The optimal duration of anticoagulant therapy remains under debate. When select-ing the appropriate duration of anticoagulant therapy, the individual¡¯s risk of recurrence and major bleeding should be considered. A 25 year-old male had a car accident and was clinically diagnosed as a cauda equina syndrome with incomplete paraplegia. After 11 months, he was diagnosed with proximal DVT, and the patient was admitted to hospital for anticoagulation. Upon discharge from hospital the patient continued 1 year proper anticoagulation therapy, however the patient was readmitted for recurred DVT after 4 years. Here we report a case of DVT recurrence 4 year after stop-ping anticoagulation.
